Rehoming Your
Bunny
We can only suggest you try to rehome your bunny as best you can, but please make sure to ask for a rehoming fee of at least $40. Some people will try to get free or low-cost rabbits for backyard breeding, snake food or dog bait. There are 2 sites that allow you to create your own rehoming page and post a profile – https://rehome.adoptapet.com/ and https://www.rescueme.org/
You can also create a rehoming post on the Facebook group called Texas Indoor Rabbit Rehoming and Adoption, and the Facebook group called Exotic Pets of San Antonio (rehome and adoption).
Be sure to include nice photos, and a short bio that talks about your bunny’s personality; and make sure it’s clear that you will only place them in the best home.
In addition, there is a rabbit rescue in Pflugerville called House Rabbit Resource Network; a couple rabbit rescues in Houston called Houston Rabbit Resource and Bunny Buddies; and in the Dallas/Fort Worth area called Bunny Burrow Rabbit Rescue. You can always try those rescues and see if they have room. As a last resort you can surrender to the City of San Antonio’s Animal Care Services, but they are not a first choice as they are not well equipped to care for rabbits. We do NOT recommend rehoming any rabbit to the Retired Rabbit Sanctuary in China Grove as it is NOT a sanctuary and the bunnies there are not housed/fed appropriately and are kept outside. And whatever you do, please do NOT set your bunny free outside as domestic rabbits will not survive. They will easily become food for owls, hawks, dogs, etc., get parasites and sick or injured, get hit by a car, or starve to death and dehydrate with the hot and humid Texas weather. That is no way to treat an animal.
